Games Using Scoops and Balls

Games Using Scoops and Balls is broken down into 5 tasks: Orientation to Scoops and Balls, Throwing and Catching, Throwing and Catching Using a Wall, Throwing at Targets and Throwing and Catching with a Partner. A scoop can be used for carrying, catching, and throwing a ball. As an extension of the arm, it requires more eye-hand coordination to use than the hand but it is a motivating piece of equipment in a games program. Like paddle bats, scoops require players to have some skill level in order to use them in games and while there will be a need to allow ample time for experimentation and discovery for players to become familiar with the scoop, the players may surprise you at how quickly the skills can be acquired.
